PERSEVERANCE:  Steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.

Throughout your life you will be faced with many challenges.  Some of these challenges will be harder than others; some will be more fun than others; and some will make you feel like there is no way you can conquer them.  No matter what the challenge is, you will have to decide whether you will persevere and push through in order to receive the prize at the end.

I want to take a minute to talk about a few type of challenges you might face:

School tends to be a challenge at some point or another for all of us.  Sometimes it is school in general, sometimes only one particular subject, or sometimes just one assignment may really challenge us.  It is our job as students to persevere and to do whatever it takes to master the challenges of school.  This may mean that you just need to spend more time studying or maybe you need to go to a teacher or tutor and get additional help.  Whatever the challenge may be, you need to persevere and have a Pil Seung Spirit to come out having mastered it!  Note to Black Belt Club and STORM Team members:  As leaders you need to always be sure to keep your grades up for you and for others who look up to you!

Home also tends to have challenges.  These challenges are for parents, children, and siblings alike.  Believe it or not, parents have challenges all the time that they need to persevere through.  Parents have been trusted by God to raise their children in a Godly manner and help them to become productive and responsible adults.  Kids, you may face challenges where you just don’t want to listen to your mom and dad.  It is in these times that you need to realize that they are on your side.  The things your parents ask of you are to help you grow up to be the best adults that you can be.  Even if you get mad, don’t agree with what is asked, or just don’t want to persevere through a task at home, don’t stop!  Keep pushing through.

Other areas of your life might present you with obstacles as well.  Maybe you play sports or a musical instrument.  Maybe you have committed your time to a group or community service project.  There are so many times in your life you might want to just throw in the towel and quit, but you need to stay focused and persevere.  Asking God to guide you, asking others for help, and committing to not giving up will prove to strengthen your character and help you achieve all that you have been created to achieve!
