GOAL:  The object of a person’s ambition or effort; an aim or desired result

Throughout each of our lives, we will set and achieve many goals.  Some of these goals we are conscious of setting, others come much more naturally.

As a baby we make the natural goals of crawling, walking, and talking.  As we get older we make more goals such as riding a bike or skateboard.  Some goals are first set by others and then are adopted into our own goals.  Our parents may encourage us to do well in our school studies, but as we work hard and achieve good marks we may begin to set high standards and goals for ourselves.

Setting goals should become a way of life.  If we stay satisfied where we are and never make new goals to strive for, we stagnate and never really reach our full potential.  We do not have to make only one goal to work on, but we can work towards several goals at the same time.

As we begin this new year of 2015, I would like to encourage you to think hard and set goals that you would like to work towards over the year.  Some goal areas and goals might be:

Do well in school by making higher grades or getting more involved

Be more a part of your family at home by taking on more responsibilities for yourelf.  Maybe you want to take on a new chore or become more consistent in the chores you already have.

Push forward in your martial art training.  Choose to come to extra classes and practice several times per week at home.  Maybe even make a goal to talk to friends and family to come try class as well - this will benefit them, but also allow you to spend more time with those you enjoy spending time with.

We can set goals and have good intentions of striving to achieve them and that is all good and well.  I would, however, encourage you to share your goals with those close to you (teachers, mentors, family members, friends).  By doing this, you will not be alone in your efforts.  While we strive to achieve our goals, sometimes we really want to give up, but if there are others around us that are encouraging us to not give up - to PERSEVERE - achieving those goals are many times easier.

I look forward to helping you achieve your goals in this upcoming year.  Any way I can help you, just let me know.
