INTEGRITY - “Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching” C.S. Lewis

Jacob Deceives His Father

Jacob and Esau are twin brothers.  Esau was born a few minutes before Jacob so he is the older brother and has the birthright.  The oldest boy in each family always receives this birthright.  The son with the birthright received special things when his father died.  He got more of the family money and the other children thought he was the most important.  He even became the chief, the leader of the family.

Jacob actually bought Esau’s birthright earlier on by trading a bowl of stew for it.  However, it really is not Jacob’s until his father says so.  One day Jacob deceives his father and pretends to be Esau.  He dressed like Esau and even smelled like Esau so his father thought Jacob was Esau.  Isaac, Jacob and Esau’s father, the birthright to Jacob.

In this Bible Story, Jacob was not showing that he had integrity.  He did not tell the truth and he lied to his father.  We should always be truthful in what we say so that people can trust us.  We should speak kindly to each other while being honest.  We should learn to be good role models for other instead of allowing anyone who is making the wrong decision to be our role model.

Remember to do right even if no one is watching!
